We picked a perfect time to visit the zoo, sunshine and blue skies all day, in the seventies, Florida winter at it's best. Here are some photos of the Rainbow Lorikeets from the Lorikeet Landing Station at Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa, Florida.Â
Lowry Park Zoo is one of the top zoos in the country with 56 acres of lush, natural habitats, over one million visitors annually and very proud to have been voted the # 1 kid friendly zoo by Parents Magazine.Â
A real gem. Why is it that we never visit the attractions close to us?
This post is all about the Lorikeets, next up are the Komodo Dragon - (I got a shot of his forked tongue - too cool)  and the Meerkats - (Meerkat Manor live-they were too cute), but I digress.
Oh, and if you go on your birthday, you get in free!
So if you are traveling in Tampa Bay or especially if you are vacationing in Florida with the kids, check out the info and their website at the end of this article.  Â
So come on along for our tour...
at Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa, Florida.Â
I couldn't get over the vivid colored feathers,
such beautiful creatures.
To think there is a place on earth where they live in the wild.
Their exhibit was one giant aviary
which placed us smack in the middle of the action.Â
Lorikeets flitting about everywhere.
You couldn't help but smile and go,
" Aww, look at these two or that one over there."
Social and vocal, you could tell that right away:)
This fellow was one of the few all green parrots.
But, if you were smart,
you bought a little cup of food,
I thought this one would fall into the cup:)
held out your hand
they'd fly right up onto your hand.Â
They were noisy and vocal
and apparently loved to argue
about whose turn it was to score the goodies in the cup.
Here they are settling the issue.
The consensus seemed to be
no more then two lorikeets per cup.
You have to wait for your turn.
are native to Indonesia and Australia.
