Here are some pics from our recent weekend at the beach in Florida. We loved our holiday getaway to the new Hyatt Regency Resort and Spa in Clearwater Beach, Florida. It was a truly memorable experience because of the unusual weather, the food, the hotel amenities, not to mention the beautiful beaches.
There is a good reason why Clearwater Beach is one of the top five beaches in the country. White sands, clear water and a beautiful beach, tons of entertainment for all ages and interests plus great places to eat and shop.Â
Our hotel was decorated for the season and I especially liked the stairway with all the
poinsettias on display - very festive, don't you think?
We were there for the annual company holiday party, something we always look forward to, and since the company did so well this year, they actually paid for two nights at the Hyatt Regency Resort and Spa in Clearwater, not to mention a fabulous spread. We felt like we won the lottery.
The weather was unusually cool and fickle, but we didn't mind, since we managed to catch enough sunshine, including a sunny and warm Sunday Morning room service breakfast on our balcony listening to the waves crashing. Â
This was the first time I've seen early morning fog on the beach - it was fascinating to see and photograph.
There were not too many people out and about, it was still windy and cool.Â
The beach looked all but deserted.
This couple certainly was a bright cheery spot,
huddled beneath their umbrella
with one of the hotels shrouded in fog behind them.
Slowly the weather improved .....
Little girl on the beach
Before long the skies were blue again and kids were out on their bikes and roller blades and everyone started drifting toward the beaches ..
Shot of Pier 60 in Clearwater
The sunsets at Pier 60 in Clearwater are legendary and always a festive event all year round, weather permitting there will be music and arts and crafts vendors.
there were people everywhere
and you could hear every language under the sun.
The pink building you see in the background is the Hyatt Hotel where we stayed.
The sun was bright and glistening on the water.
A popular spot in the hot Florida summers
is the sundial
with misting water to cool off.
The fog rolled back in again by afternoon and
made for a surreal sight
... a foggy sunset.
Both views taken from our hotel room...
The tops of the tallest buildings barely showed above the fog.
A strangely cool looking sight:)
Other then the beach we did some heavy partying and dancing and it was all over way too fast.
We live in the area, but don't frequent Clearwater Beach much since it has a tendency to be too touristy, but
here is an insider tip for you: If you like seafood, but can't afford those pricey tourist restaurants - check out "Frenchy's". They have four restaurants near the beach, one is within walking distance of the Hyatt, called the "Salt Water Cafe". A super casual, beachy themed hang out, with excellent crab, grouper sandwiches and great seafood, cheap appetizers and drinks, friendly service and always a kid friendly, family, party atmosphere.
One more tip - if you happen to visit in December, be sure to visit the Florida Botanical Garden to see the Holiday Light Display, it's free, fantastic and close-by.
