We had a fun Saturday afternoon at the Folkfest in St. Pete, a free three day art and music festival.
This post is part of a series of insider travel tips - photo tours around the Tampa Bay Area in Florida.
When we left the festival, the party was still in full swing, the sidewalk cafes overflowing, music drifting from the clubs and on stage. People out walking with their dogs, bicycling, BBQ in the park by the beach ....
Nowhere in the Tampabay Florida area is the feeling of community spirit so evident as it is in downtown St. Pete. It literally permeates the air, good will, good folk, a neighborhood connection between the art district, a great mix of small art galleries and unique shops, the late night clubs.
Did I mention the beaches? Downtown St. Petersburg, Florida has the finest white sandy beaches. Swim in the ocean or take a stroll in one of three downtown parks right by the water, admire the yachts in the harbour and enjoy the cool breeze on a hot summer night. It was a balmy 75 degrees once the sun went down.
The festival was organized by the Creative Clay Studios

Â
We loved watching the
live demonstrations
 by potters and painters.

Â
Here is one of the clay artists at work

Â
You can find his art at the Craftsman House

Â
Fun - food and art - everywhere ..........

Â
A painter at work in her booth ...

Â
Richard loves musicÂ
so I dawdled and photographed
while he went on to find - what else - a beer and the main stage.

Â
We both really enjoyed the performance of
Have Gun, Will Travel and
the performance of
The Heavy Pets
 plus visual
 artist LEBO
Â
Lebo painted while the band played.

Â
Two of several bands who played for free all day long.
Â
There are galleries all along Central Ave
who participated in the event.
Â
I found two irresistible multi-media works at theÂ
artists' co-op.
A great place to find that special gift!
Â

Â
Â
Thought you might like to see
the practically
finished work of art:)
by artist Lebo

Â
Amazing
what one can do
with a box of crayolas ....

Â
Yup - this sign
says it all!
PEOPLE MAKE HAPPY CITIES ...

Â
We had a brew, pulled pork and sausage,
debated over trying the gator bites
then decided on
an evening walk along the water .....
Â
Powder blue and pink skies
and a little white sail boat
which just happened to show up at the right time:)

Â
Time to head home ...
Richard is mumbling about a football game at 8:00pm.
Â
Oh well,
I was happy to experiment with a few night shots...
Â
Boats in the harbour

 Â
There you have it ....
another entertaining Saturday Night in St. Petersburg, Florida.
There were events and music at the pier and a concert at Janus Landing, a concert venue, recently overhauled. Friends of ours went and couldn't say enough good things about the renovation, including some fine sparkling ladies rooms. Hey, that's important when you gotta go:)
Watch out ..... for the skateboarders
and enjoy a glass of wine on the veranda at the historic, refined Vinoy Hotel and Resort, eye candy pure - whether you just like architecture or want to enjoy a view of the sunset.
Â
Thanks for tagging along on our outing.
Happy Monday to you!

Awesome photo essay.
I think I will post the painting some time this week.
I can't believe how perfect the weather is this week- we can open the windows YAY!
As the days get chillier here, I'm hearing the siren's song of the South. Weird, since I'd long considered myself a dedicated Northerner.
There is always something going on in St. Petersburg, Florida - so come on down for a visit, snow bird:)
