There are beautiful experiences to gain in Cornwall, Wales, the Lake District, Yorkshire, East Anglia, Kent, Cumbria, Northumberland and Scotland.
The Edinburgh Festival (Scotland) is a wonderful event with such a lot of variety of entertainments, the city itself has a lot of interesting history and is where the legendary Rebus lives. The Lake District is good for scenery and walking and historic connections. Cornwall and its neighbouring Devon are good for scenery and just lazing about, Northumberland has a lot going for it in its history and culture; Newcastle is near and Berwick on Tweed marks the old boundary between the Scots and the English, Hadrians Wall, The wall extends right across from coast to coast and was built in Roman times; it's still there! Alnwick is where the Duke of Northumberland has his home and in Morpeth there is a small bagpipe museum showing that the instruments are not just confined to the history books for Scotland. They were used from India to Inverness. The Chantry where the museum is dates back to 1296.
York is also an interesting and historic town, dating back to before Roman times. I dare anyone to go there and not to be impressed by the shops, the buildings, the cafes and the Minster. I also recommend going on one of the 'ghost walks.'
More to the UK than fish 'n' chips, beef drippin', bowler 'ats, the Tower o' Landen and Buck House!
Peace.
As a londoner I can certainly vouch for the fact that you should not be renting a car. Driving through london will be like banging your head against a brick wall and you'll end up spending 99% of your time in the car instead of seeing all the sights of London like you should be!
