This past weekend at the mountains I encountered two racoons out front of the house.
I was standing on the front porch when two racoons came to visit. One came up on the porch and climbed on the container of pinecones about 2 feet away from me. I guess he didn't see me there when he came up on the porch and while I was wondering what to do, knowing I had to remain very still to risk being attacked, he saw me. I think I scared him, he hesitated for a moment and then jumped off the porch onto a tree which is next to the porch. He hung there for a minute or so just staring at me. The other racoon was just sitting at the bottom of the steps sniffing around a bush. I wasn't paying much attention to him, I was just hoping he didn't notice me.
After the racoon on the tree decided I wasn't going to attack him, he jumped off the tree, made himself look big by fluffing out his fur, and ran sideways out to the road, about 15 feet away. The other racoon heard him scamper off and followed.
Now, where was my camera? In on the dining room table! I have to learn to keep my camera in my pocket. You just never know when you'll want it.
